I've been book-tagged!
Thanks for tagging me Saint.
I love reading. Snuggled up on the couch, on a rainy afternoon with a big fat mug of coffee and some great music in the background is my idea of heaven. I don’t read so much when I’m in stress mode though. This basically means that I haven’t really read more than 10 books in the last 8 months that I've lived in Bombay, which totally sucks. But here goes anyway...
Total Books I own:
Hmmm...had quite a huge collection as a child...you know...Blyton, Wodehouse, Jean Plaidy, etc...but between friends and cousins, it's somehow vanished. :-( But I still have stacks of other, 'newer' authors like Grisham, Sheldon, etc lying in both my homes in Pune, so...
Last book I bought:
Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I love it I love it I love it! I will laugh when I read this entire trilogy for fucking ever!
Last book that I was gifted:
Probably the Lord of the Rings series by an uncle on my 15th birthday.
Last book I read:
The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho. I simply adore this author and all his books.
Currently reading:
The Impressionist by Hari Kunzru. Actually, I just finished reading it last night. It started out brilliantly; I could almost imagine Bombay of the 1930s while reading it. But the end was a sorry excuse for a climax. Sheesh.
Five books that mean a lot to me:
1. Do Butlers Burgle Banks? by P G Wodehouse. Just thinking of this book brings back so many great memories. This one is seperate from his usual sets — no Jeeves, Wooster, and no pigs. But it was great nevertheless.
2. Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. The first and only Rushdie book I've ever read. Swept me off my feet. Unbelievably brilliant. Every sentence is magic. I don't care if you hate his books, but this one is pure, unadulterated gold.
3. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. I've seen shades of every single person I know (including myself) in its 300-odd pages. 'Twas, erm, educational. Not to mention highly surreal.
4. The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. Marvellous. Words cannot begin to describe the genius that is Colfer. Pure magic. A must read for every fantasy fanatic.
5. Catcher in the Rye by J D Salinger. Timeless. That's all I can say.
But I really don't want to stop there. Before moving to the next question, I want to mention: Ambrosia for Afters by Kalpana Swaminathan, Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding (deliriously funny), Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, Roots by Alex Haley, An Equal Music by Vikram Seth, Five Quarters of Orange by Joanne Harris, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi, Ice Candy Man by Bapsi Sidhwa, Life of Pi by Yann Martel and the list could go on!
Books that I plan to read soon:
1. A large and heavy hardback collection of stories called Tales of Horror and Darkness by Algernon Blackwood.
2. The Razor's Edge by Somerset Maugham.
Worst book ever:
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. Aiyaiyaiyaiyai! A distaster if there ever was one. All copies of this book should be burnt. Or recycled Into toilet paper. The book was so bloody bland and I am truly dumber after having read it. They've made it into a move as well. Ruunnnn for your lives!
Ooooh...now I get to be Tagger!
Please to be putting your lists down: Surreal Surges, Bonatellis, and Rainbow. Hazel already did one, soo...

you are welcome, :-)
Darn, i forgot about The Catcher..and To Kill a Mockingbird and Franny and Zoey and.. Catch 22..
Considering the number of people who recommend the Impressionist, i really must pick it up..
Many thanks for the tagged link. Would love to return the compliment, except I'm technologically challenged (which is a crime considering I hail from a tech background)!
Your readings form a great collection, am thoroughly out-classed. Must admit, struggled through Rushdie.
Have just re-read all works of Ogden Nash, and pored over favourite poems..."Pied Piper", "Walrus and Carpenter", "The Raven" etc.
amazing book, Rushdie has an unparralleled writing style and by the way how's "The impresssionist'
Sorry to be spamming, but I finally managed to compile a list. Would a music list interest anyone?
hey, thanks for tagging me.
just a bit too tied up with work ... so may be a bit late in responding.
If you liked Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, then you might like Road to Mars by Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame). For a sampler head over to my (now defunkt) blog, which has got quite a few passages from the book.
Liked your reading list, mine would read something similar.
Do Butler's Burgle Banks? and Galahad at Blandings rate as my favorite P.G. Wodehouse books.
