Spectacle!

The first of the US Presidential debates was aired on CNN early on October 1. This is where both presidential candidates go head to head and show prospective voters what they're really made of. Except, this time they have a 32 page set of rules, with the primary intention of wimping down the entire process. Both these dweebs and their backers were so scared of their man fucking up badly, that they pussified the whole process, leaving zero margin for error!

Except there's no such thing as "zero margin for error" where George W. Bush is concerned. He's a perennial fuck-up. This is the man who showed a naive little world that even a pretzel (if it falls in the wrong hands) can be a deadly weapon! I didn't expect much from Kerry but was impressed by how composed and cerebral he was. G.W, on the other hand, looked peeved and bitter and resentful. He was a man on the defensive. But then, in all fairness, Bush has definitely got the shitty end of the stick. It's like Bin Laden took a big dump right on his front porch and little G has the unenviable task of scooping it up, while people come up from behind him and go "Yo! George, pull your pants up dude, your butt-crack is showing! And what's that god awful smell? Get your act in shape boy!"

Despite the wussification, the debate was very interesting to watch. One of the guidelines given to television networks was that the camera would only show the man who was speaking. This little gem was royally flouted by the networks, making the whole thing a lot more exciting. Later, some young black cartoonist while being interviewed on CNN called Bush "inarticulate" and "stupid" and also threw in "dumb" for good measure. That a man can go on national TV and express his opinions (no matter how simplistic) about the leader of his nation - that in itself makes the US the amazing country it is! Haha! Super cool!
